Many of the nation’s most important historical, political, and religious landmarks surround it, making it one of the most significant places in Peru. One thing I found surprising, however, is that the central area of the square is fenced off and not accessible to visitors. A note left hereYou're so glad that we came to the square. Seeing the different architecture styles as well as history of each building was great. We were even able to see the changing of the guard at the presidential Palace. It was a little bit of a drive for us from Miraflores, but we were very happy that we were able to see this.
